Module 4 of 6 · 3 minutes
Full tin, empty shelf
There's money in your tin right now.
Is that profit?
Nothing you type here is sent anywhere.
The idea
Profit only exists after the stock is replaced.
The money in the tin is mostly next week's stock wearing a disguise.
This one is for everybody, including if you drive. Your shelf is just an engine.
Which are you?
Your week
What's really yours
Stock, transport, rent: everything the shop needs to open again.
The fixed amount from Module 1. Put 0 if you haven't set one.
The answer
Nothing is going to the engine. That is the one almost nobody funds, which is why a rebuild arrives as a crisis instead of a cost you already paid for. Even a small amount every week changes what that day looks like.
But I need money now
You do. That's your wage, and it comes out first and fixed. This is about what's left after: the number that tells you whether the business is actually working.
I always restock, so it works out
It works out until the week it doesn't. Then you borrow, and the borrowing is the expensive part.
What it costs to reopen
This is the number to know before you spend anything out of the tin.
Module 5, The book, is the next one.
